FAYETTE COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT

The Fayette County Conservation District offers a $500 scholarship to Fayette County
students entering into or currently enrolled in agriculture, environmental science, or a
related field.
A. The applicant must be entering into or enrolled in Agriculture, Environmental Science or
related field of study.
B. The applicant must be a resident of Fayette County.
C. The scholarship shall be awarded by the Conservation District Board of Directors without
regard to race, sex, color, creed or national origin.
D. The applicant must have completed at least his/her junior year of high school and be
accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled at an educational institution of higher learning
on at least a part-time basis.
E. The scholarship recipient must register for and be attending classes in the fall of 2009 and/or
spring of 2010 semester.

Conservation Leadership School (CLS)Scholarship
The Fayette County Conservation District is offering a full scholarship to a Fayette County student interested in
attending Penn State University’s Conservation Leadership School.
Qualifications
High school students will learn about the environment and conservation issues during a one-week residential camp
that emphasizes field-based, hands-on learning along with group problem solving and leadership. Students will work
with faculty and staff from the School of Forest Resources and representatives from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat
Commission, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Department of
Conservation and Natural Resources and other conservation organizations.

A. The applicant must have a genuine interest in conservation and the environment.
B. The applicant must be a resident of Fayette County.
C. The applicant must be 15-18 years old and must have completed 9th grade. An individual 19
years of age that has just graduated from high school is also eligible.
D. The scholarship shall be awarded by the Conservation District Board of Directors without
regard to race, sex, color, creed or national origin.
E. The scholarship recipient must attend either the June 2009 or July 2009 session.
Michael is a 2010 graduate of Albert Gallatin High School where he was a member of the Future Business Leaders of
America, the golf, baseball and math teams, National Honor Society, and foreign language and interact clubs. He also
received numerous awards such as Fayette Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month and the Extra Effort award.
In 2009 Michael was the recipient of the Conservation District's Conservation Leadership School scholarship. He plans
to attend Penn State University - Main Campus in the fall to study Environmental Resource Management.
