| A Brief Introduction to Erosion Controls |
ALL job sites, which require some amount of disturbance, are required to implement erosion control
measures. REGARDLESS OF THE SIZE OF THE ACTIVITY!
The erosion controls can be as simple as silt fencing, to a detailed design of sediment traps and
collection channels. Each site has different limitations and therefore each site has different control
needs.
If you are involved in a site or bidding of a job in which earthmoving is involved, REMEMBER to ask
for or request to see the approved erosion control plan.
If you are not sure what is needed for erosion control, contact the Fayette County Conservation
District office. We will be able to provide technical assistance for you.
Also, be reminded that ANY work that is proposed to be conducted WITHIN 50 FEET OF A
WATERCOURSE MAY NEED A PERMIT. Examples of work needing a permit include:
• Installation of a bridge
• Working on a stream bank
• Adding fill material
If your project requires a permit, the Conservation District will assist you. We will also help you
investigate if you qualify for a waiver of permit.
