| The Envirothon is an environmental program for high school students in grades 9 -12. Five-member teams study resource materials throughout the school year for five environmental stations: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife and a Current Environmental Issue. At the end of the year, all of the teams come together to assess their knowledge at the County event. Tests, worth 100 points each, are given to the teams at each individual station. The team with the highest cumulative score advances to the state competition. The program provides future generations with the ability to be better equipped to address the complex natural resource concerns facing today’s world as well as the challenges of tomorrow. We have held the high school event, in Fayette County since 2001, and have extended this program to the Jr. High level (7th and 8th grade). The Jr. Envirothon is very similar to the high school competition. Students compete as a team, however, the students only visit 4 stations (the Current Issue station is excluded). |
