Each year the FCCD rewards worthy individuals for their commitment to conservation. Awards are given in the following categories:
Conservation Farmer of the Year Conservation Educator of the Year Conservationist of the Year

Conservationist of the Year
This award was designed to recognize an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding
commitment to the conservation of Fayette County’s natural resources.
Who is eligible?
Examples of eligible individuals:
• Conservation volunteers
• Retired or active conservation professionals
• Leaders of conservation organizations
• Members of conservation organizations
Farmers and educators are excluded from this category (if eligible for Conservation Farmer or
Conservation Educator of the Year).
Conservation Farmer of the Year

This award was designed to recognize a farmer who has implemented BMPs to protect and enhance
natural resources on the farm. Farmers must take a “whole farm” approach to resource protection
including nutrient management, erosion prevention and control, surface water protection and wildlife
habitat enhancement. The farmer will also have taken a proactive approach to environmental
stewardship through his/her farming practices and actions. Farmers must be registered with the
Conservation District as a Cooperator and have a conservation plan approved by the NRCS and the
Fayette County Conservation District.
Conservation Educator of the Year

This award has been designed to recognize a Fayette County educator who has demonstrated an
outstanding commitment to environmental/conservation programs and activities.
Any educator in public, parochial and private schools across Fayette County, who has
demonstrated this commitment, is eligible to receive this award. Candidates must have been
actively teaching during the current school year, and be responsible for an outstanding
conservation education program/project during the present and preceding school years.
The Fayette County Conservation District offers a $500 scholarship to Fayette County students entering into or currently enrolled in agriculture, environmental science, or a related field. We also sponsor a full scholarship to the Conservation Leadership School. Please check-out the scholarships page for that information.
